Tad Lonnerman is having a crappy day stuck in crappy traffic late to a crappy meeting. On the bright side, his game development career is the only non-crappy thing he has going for him, so life isn't all bad. At least until he dies. Now Tad finds himself uploaded to a beta test of Haven, an unannounced hyper-immersive MMO where the dead have a second chance at life. It's not virtual reality, it's digital reality. A true afterlife online. Except Haven isn't exactly blissful paradise. Tad bumbles into a pagan blood feud, crosses paths with fallen angels, and gets lied to by saints. His only allies? A frat boy with a penchant for dying and a pixie who won't give him the time of day. Second chances be damned. All Tad wants is to return to his old life, and he'll do anything for the opportunity. Even make a deal with the devil. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Justin Thomas James. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/093919/bk_acx0_093919_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
We have met the enemy and they are ours.” (Oliver Hazard Perry)Sandwiched between the Revolution and the Civil War, the War of 1812 is one of America’s forgotten conflicts, and the stalemated nature of the war (which resolved virtually none of either side’s war aims) has also ensured that it is often given merely a cursory overview.Great Britain, as the leader of several coalitions of conservative European countries trying to isolate and snuff out the revolutionary spirit and the ambitions of Napoleon, had been at war with France almost continuously since 1792. Under President Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) and James Madison (1809-1817), the United States tried to steer a course that would keep it from being drawn into the European war and defend its neutrality on the high seas. However, both Britain and France wanted to hurt the other side economically by keeping goods out of their enemy’s hands. Thus, they did not faithfully respect the rights of neutral nations. The British government in 1807 had issued the “Orders in Council”, which enforced a naval blockade against France, and with a shortage of seamen to man the Royal Navy, Britain also felt justified in stopping and sometimes firing on ships flying the American flag in the name of apprehending escaped British sailors. The other main cause of war was distress on the Northwestern frontier, where the British in Canada were supporting Indian resistance to American settlement. So-called “War Hawks” from that region in Congress pushed for a declaration of war. Some hoped that a war would not only stop Indian depredations but evict the British from Canada and lead to completion of some unfinished business from the American Revolution, namely Canada joining the U.S.Americans had few things to celebrate during the Barbary Wars or the War of 1812, but one of them was the growing prestige of the U.S. Navy, and among those who were instrumental in its development, few were as influential as UNKNOWN N N ©2019 Charles River Editors;(P)2019 Charles River Editors http://www.audible.de/pd/B0813Y4SWP?source_code=PNHFA145032019009G&ipRedirectOverride=true http://www.audible.de/pd/B0813Y4SWP?source_code=PNHFA145032019009G&ipRedirectOverride=true Mein Adventskalender-Hörspiel: Pettersson und Findus 7.95 AVAILABLE Mein Adventskalender-Hörspiel: Pettersson und Findus Mein Adventskalender-Hörspiel Sven Nordqvist, Angela Strunck Morgen, Findus, wird's was geben. Revision with unchanged content. Thomas Mann s three stories Tonio Kröger, Tristan and Der Tod in Venedig are compared with the translations by Helen Lowe-Porter and David Luke re spectively. From the comparison, it emerges that Lowe-Porter s translations are so deeply flawed that her oeuvre can be regarded as a scandal in the translation world. Even today, her botched versions of Thomas Mann s works are still being widely published and used as texts in institutes of higher edu cation. Luke s translations are generally reliable, but they still fail to capture the literary aspects of Thomas Mann s prose. Alternative literary strategies are discussed with examples illustrated by the author s own samples. The dis cussion about how to approach the translation of dense literary passages, humour, philosophical arguments and dialect has led to the development of a new theory of translation: the Strategic Approach. The traditional concept of fidelity is redefined, based on Wittgenstein s language game theory. This book should be of interest to linguists, translators, students and teachers of translation as well as to any one who wishes to increase their knowledge and appreciation of one of Europe s greatest prose stylists.
Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Communications - Movies and Television, grade: 1.0, University of Hannover (Englisches Seminar (English Department)), course: Digital Movies, Chaos Cinema, Post-Cinematic Affect: Thinking 21st-Century Motion Pictures, language: English, abstract: This thesis brings into relation Thomas Elsaesser's category of the "mind-game film" and Gilles Deleuze's observations of a new depiction and awareness of time in film. The mind-game filmis then read as symptomatic of a social change from a society of "discipline" towards a "society of control" (Michel Foucault). In the course of this analysis, the catalyst role of technical progress and pervasive interconnectedness becomes evident.Traditional tenets of cinema and storytelling are overcome and played with. Time, which used to flow naturally, and therefore unnoticed, has evolved into a crucial, freely modulatable dimension of its own and serves as an additional structural and narrational level on top of the spatial dimensions. This development is propelled by the rise of the digital image and its manifold possibilities of interfering with the flow of time. Likewise, the principle of "focalization" is extended beyond the idea of merely directing our attention, towards the total filtration of the film reality through the (subjective) vision of a (or several) character(s) (Buckland 8). Thriving on these central elements, mind-game films aim to deceive the spectator by determining when, or if, he/she receives certain information which is crucial to the understanding of the story. Just as no focal character can possibly be sure of his/her own perception's reliability or, for that matter, his/her own mental sanity, we cannot trust our perception. What we see is the image of an image, filtered through a succession oftwo minds, the character's virtual one and our own [...]

Conflicts in the form of wars, or competition among countries and industrial institutions are plenty in human history. The introduction of game theory in the middle of the twentieth century shed insights and enabled researchers to analyze this subject with mathematical rigor. From the ground-breaking work of VonNeumann and Morgenston, modern game theory evolved enormously. In the last few decades, Dynamic game theory framework has been deepened and generalized from the pioneering work on differential games by R. Isaacs, L.S. Pontryagin and his school, and on stochastic games by Shapley. This book will expose the reader to some of the fundamental methodology in non-cooperative game theory, and highlight some numerical methods, along with some relevant applications. Since the early development days, differential game theory has had a significant impact in such diverse disciplines as applied mathematics, economics, systems theory, engineering, operations, research, biology, ecology, environmental sciences, among others. Modern game theory now relies on wide ranging mathematical and computational methods, and relevant applications that are rich and challenging. Game theory has been widely recognized as an important tool in many fields. Importance of game theory to economics is illustrated by the fact that numerous game theorists, such as John Forbes Nash, Jr., Robert J. Aumann and Thomas C. Schelling, have won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics Sciences. Simply put, game-theory has the potential to reshape the analysis of human interaction.
